First Apple is the title under which the artist Ramón Espantaleón intended to express particular views on the origin of the world. To do this, the technique of pointillism reinterpreted and applied in the volumetric representation of the New York island of Manhattan, considered the center of the modern world.
Georges Seurat, Pointillism representative, sought to reconcile the rigid principles of drawing the optical principles sensed by the great colorists. Based on this idea, and wanting to reflect our digital age, Ramón Espantaleón replaces the concept of point per pixel, creating a pixelated world.
Manhattan is also called the Big Apple, fruit of discord associated with the creation of mankind through Adam and Eve. A city vigorous, dynamic, powerful, changing and chaotic, possessing great symbols as the missing Twin Towers, the symbol of a society that will last without any, as six of the seven wonders of the ancient world, such as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon or the Colossus of Rhodes, although missing endure as symbols of universal culture.
The Twin Towers were and will be the heart of Manhattan. Hence, the size of First Apple (229 cm x 38 cm) has the same proportion that these towers, in order to give more emphasis to the concept of "origin of the world."
The canvas pixel by the various volumes that make the city resemble the windows of skyscrapers.
We have chosen white, Western symbol of spirituality and purity, and in turn the union of all the colors, the background of this canvas pixel, generating different titrations with composing the great contrasts of light work.
On this blank canvas, as if it were a grid sheet, is to draw different motifs and symbols of the city, applied only to the top of volumetric pixels.
First Apple left a rigorous strength of Manhattan, who brought important results used for the creation of the work. Work has begun to see that the width of each street (32 meters) is half the width of each block (64 meters) has been chosen as a "pixel" 32 x 32 that +34 645626109 scale, creates 5x5 mm pixels. In addition, the width of each block, almost always, there are two buildings, one on the right and one on the left, so the "pixel" represents faithfully every building in the city.
On the other hand, we have measured the height of the 35,000 existing buildings in the study area to calculate, at the height of each "pixel."
There are buildings that are very wide, so it has several corresponding pixels for reproduction. On the contrary, there is less wide in buildings that had to do a titration in the same pixel.
The project is made of clay to make a silicone mold, and resin reproductions.
